change age!!!!!

Now we have to change the age group that we had as this age group is to sophisticated for our game so we were thinking of going down an age group from 4-6 instead but we have to do more research and change our questions to be more relevant to the game.

Finally the logo.

Presentations

Time for our presentation tomorrow . . . . . .  prepare prepare prepare. . . . . . .

This is an image that we used to link places to our blog. . . . .

take a picture and try it......

Technology

For our technology we were planning on using a GPS type system I thought that some how there would be a way to use it inside but there isn't so we are still going to use a controller type object that the child carries around but we are thinking of using more switches and triggers to show when the child enters the right place there has been different ideas floating around our mind. One which we are thinking of about most is using a QR Code Generator which takes an image and if you have the app/ software you can take a picture if the image and it will link you to what page you set it too.
This seems like the best idea as we can have the image on the controller and once the child show the image to the camera it will be triggered.
Another idea which would make the game run smoother and quicker would be if we got id tags/ cards which are like the tags that do be on clothes in the shop . . . . . these are used to trigger alarms which would make it capable of triggering what we want it to and when.

Here is another mood board of different switches were planning on using.

More images drawn.

Pictures of islands and backgrounds

MOOD BOARDS

These are mood boards to try and give you a better feel of the game.

Menu and fonts                                                 Island and maps

                                                      Technology

Animations

We have small animations done of the monkey the pirate and the invisibility helmet sadly I don't know how to put them on this but if I find out I will.

Slight story change

You are a monkey in a mysterious jungle, this jungle is on an island which is being invaded by pirates who kidnapped the monkeys mother. To help his mother he must go as fast as possible to the invisibilty machine that was left within mount crown plaza so he can rescue his mother from the pirate.
To power the invisibilty helmet you must answer all the questions right to gather 4 bananas to power the invisibilty helmet and to rescue his mother, be safe from the pirate and live happily ever after.
The questions will be placed in stations around a building for the child to find using the controller.
If the child doesn't answer the question right they have to go back one question unless it's the first question which they will get two chances at.

Sounds

Here are a few sounds that we plan on using somewere in our game they will add to the game and bring it more to life.
We also found out that real life sounds work better so next year around march we are going to go to the zoo to record animals and also to a forest to record birds and water flowing using an edirol to record.

Then they will be edited on protools and put onto our game.

Airplane take off
Forest sounds
Hissing snake
Invisible sound
monkey sound
Roaring lion
Tarzan soundtrack instrumental

Also get friends to play instruments and we will record them.

Pictures of characters we liked. . . . and drawings

We arranged this mood board to have loads of different character so we could perhaps give use ideas about our own characters.

Mood Board

NEW STORY!!!!!

You are a monkey in a magical mysterious island, this island is being invaded by pirates you must go as fast as you can, you must answer questions to find your way to the invisibility helmet that was left within the mountain of mount-crown-plasa??? This will help the monkeys to stay safe and away from danger…

You must find bananas to power the invisibilty helmet to stay safe from the pirates.
(that way they must answer all the questions)

No more obstacles

There is too many things going on in our project now so instead of having and making obstacles, we are using the whole Carrolls building as our maze and using the sat nav to tell the children were to go.
We are still going to have the questions and answer but they are going to be placed in booths around the building.
While on the sat nav there will be a narration telling a story of how and why you must go to each booth and perhaps collect a certain amount of objects on the way.
We shall have the narration of our story up tomorrow too hopefully something about monkeys and bananas . . . . . still sticking with the jungle theme as the jungle is big and mysterious which I think will draw our audience in!

Technology side

we thought for a while about the technology part of our project first we were going to just have loads of computers placed around the maze instead from using a satellite navigation system we can have a hand held device that can be carried around by the child and when they get to a trigger point beside the obstacle it will beep and the questions will show on the screen.
There is a link somewhere but i can't find it i will put it up again here are some images instead :D

Here is a sat nav but as our idea is for kids we would change it a bit to look like this . . . .

Set up - everyone

some pictures of animals and fruit to use

from reading about 8-10 year old they like thing that are bold colourful and realistic we thought of this while drawing these pictures.

next we went back to think about more obstacles one idea was to have balloons tied to strings and for the child to go through the balloons, another was have hola hoops along the ground or tires, have tunnels that the child has to go through with balloons inside the tunnel. . . .

these are other ideas of obstacles we have.

Forgot these

I forgot to add in a few ideas that we came across that help with our theme and the way we want this project to be seen. .  here are some pictures...

Link on the development of children

This is how we came to the conclusion of choosing 8-10 year olds as well as looking up a book called
500 activities for the primary classroom this gave me an idea of what different age groups know.

Other links are . . . .

age and stage appropriate

we were also told to download aisteir from one of the 4th years studying early childhood development.

questions

The next thing to think about now is the questions we want the children to answer and how they while answer them in a fun and simple way.
Our target audience has been changing around a good bit but right now we are sticking with 8 - 10 year olds as the are enthusiastic, can understand the questions and also lively enough to run around and hopefully not get bored here are some of the questions that we have thought of.

For the 1st one we will have 4 boxes each with different types of fruit and the child must smell the fruit and identify which fruit it is before going into the obstacle course.

The 2nd one consists of a colour appearing on the screen that co insides with another fruit which the child as to get right to progress.

The 3rd one is a trigger will sensor automatically the sound will play and the child has to choose which sound they think the animal belongs to.

The 4th is more boxes but this time with textures or objects inside of them that the child has to feel and choose out of 3 things what they think the texture of object is.

This is what we have so far but it is likely too change along the way as we research deeper.

interactive sensors

www.interactivefurniture.de

this website gave me a great idea to use different types of sensors in our maze to make the experience seem more real and easy flowing.

pictures

and here are some pictures that helped us think of the maze and structure . . . .

I liked this image as it is a halloween maze that an office worker done

some obstacle course ideas that we had!

How they look . . . . .

these are simple pics of how our idea is planning on working with the entrance and also an over head view of the maze.

Start of our idea . . . . .

The idea that we came up with is to make an interactive obstacle course maze for kids. Also to have questions based on the different senses throughout the course. The theme throughout this course is going to be a jungle theme.

We have been thinking of materials we would need to make this and thought that bamboo shoots would work best as they are long and flexible.

Some ideas for using the senses were :

Sight - illusions
Sound - animals/jungle
Smell - have 2 different smells to choose from
Touch - texture eg. wood/sand
Taste - fruit or sweets

Different types of obsticals that we thought of are :
Elastic bands/ String
Sticks
Smoke ?? (not to sure as it's for kids)
Lights
Wind/ Fan that give out a bit of water
